Why Now?

COVID-19 has taken a massive collective toll on the mental health of the American workplace.  We are more stressed, isolated, anxious, and depressed than before the pandemic suddenly shifted our lives into a harsh new reality.  And, although many are vaccinated, many are not.  Recent research shows that suffering continues:

  • To date, over 47 million have been infected and over 770,000 have died.
  • More than one in three adults in the U.S. have reported symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder during the pandemic.
  • Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) are three times more likely to become infected and nearly twice as likely to die from COVID compared to their white neighbors. This disparity exists across state lines and regions.
  • Many adults must risk their health everyday just to keep their jobs and make a living.
  • Over half of women and nearly half of men with children under the age of 18 report negative impacts to their mental health because of worry and stress from coronavirus.
  • BIPOC workers at all levels of society carry the additional burden of witnessing and experiencing the tragic outcomes of institutional racism, worrying for their children's safety, and managing the impact of microaggressions and racial abuses at work and in daily life.
The COVID Resilience Skills™ Training team cannot address resilience without acknowledging the myriad of factors at play, historically and currently, in our society that take a particular and disproportionate toll on the mental health and well-being of BIPOC, with or without COVID-19.
